New York City Medical malpractice

Medical malpractice is a form of negligence specific to the medical community.  Doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals have dedicated their lives to the well-being of other people.  Despite the training and experience a medical professional receives, the practitioner is still human and prone to making an occasional mistake.  Medical mistakes are physically and emotionally devastating to those they affect.

If someone is injured or killed because a treatment provider deviated from the standard of care, the provider may be liable for the injury that has occurred. However, medical malpractice does not occur every time there is an unfavorable outcome from treatment.  The law generally recognizes the practice of medicine as an "art" rather than a strict science.  Still, health care providers are required to adhere to a standard of care to ensure patients are not harmed during the course of treatment.  The determination of whether a medical professional has met the standard of care is based on a comparison to other professionals in the same field and the same geographical region.

At worst, a practitioner's mistake can cause the death of a patient.  If the worst case scenario becomes a reality, the only recourse the victim's family has is through medical malpractice litigation.  The patient does not have to be killed for litigation to proceed though.  Even if your injuries do not seem severe, it is wise to seek the counsel of a medical malpractice lawyer who can review your case.
